RE: Covid Vaccine - Mexas Joe - 08-10-2021 Somebody told the wife that the J&J Vac is better for adult males with less side effects. Any truth to this? Should she take one brand and I take another? I really DGAF at this point. If it's my time to take a dirt nap than it's my time. Peace out and errything. I appreciate your input. Que the Rand Paul video!! Seriously, I'm scared of it because I've never had a flu shot (chicken/egg allergy). I know that there's none of that in there, but I have other anaphylaxis type reactions to really random things I've ate and I don't know why. So I'm fearful that I'd be the one person who needed to be shot up with epinephrine. Considering I have high blood pressure the thought of that possibility is terrifying. So I'm holding out for herd immunity and hoping that maybe I acquired natural immunity over the past 18 months. As far as our kids, there's not enough data, or time, or approval, or risk of Covid killing them to sway us. My wife, very hesitantly, got the Moderna shot because she works for a hospital. Even if I was not as allergic, the "sniff test" for how aggressively these shots are being rammed down our throats is alarming to me. I do not personally know anyone that has been SERIOUSLY harmed so I cannot empathize with that. I do know a dozen or so folks who have had Covid and they are okay. If I had to chose right now I'd go with J&J personally. As mentioned, I've never had a flu shot and I rarely get sick (knocks on wood) so that makes me HOPE AND PRAY that my immune system is tough. Regular Bourbon cleansing may be my secret?!?! Things like this make us hesitant with our kids. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/06/israel-reports-link-between-rare-cases-heart-inflammation-and-covid-19-vaccination RE: Covid Vaccine - bdutton - 08-10-2021 I wanted to wait for the Novavax vaccine which is a traditional type of vax but hasn't getting approval yet and they are focusing on EU deployment. I ended up taking the JJ as did the wife and daughter (younger one). They got it because of requirements for travel and school. I am not sure what the long term effects of the mRNA vax will be which is why I avoided that. The j&j uses a viral vector that leaves antigen encoding in your cellular DNA. The mRNA vaccines skip the DNA step and vanish after a few days. Both are safe, but the mRNA technology is cleaner, just needs two doses. If it comes down to just wanting one appointment versus two, then go J&J. If you have concerns over safety, then the mRNA vaccines provide that slightly higher degree of confidence. Get one of them. Pfizer at our house. She's still a hygienist right? I'm surprised she's still employed non-vaxxed. I don't care how good of masks she wears at work - she is getting exposed especially if she is using an ultrasonic scaler. Get a couple pokes. It may save you some personal misery and some others that you never knew you would have infected. My last few months practicing in 2020 were stress hell knowing all those kids coming in had been exposed. Maybe I got it then, maybe years of practicing without masks or glove built up some immunity. I guess you all don't know I came out as an orthodontist when I quit practicing last November on the other board. IMPO it's foolish to not get vaxxed I got the shots the first chance I had as did the wife. RE: Covid Vaccine - bdutton - 08-12-2021 Just posted ATOP that they pfizer effectiveness in July dropped to 42%. RE: Covid Vaccine - Trub Lou - 08-12-2021 Just for infection, though, right? I would hope that protection against hospitalization and death is still up there. Else it’s barely better than the silly face binkies. RE: Covid Vaccine - Trub Lou - 08-12-2021 I got the J&J back in April. It knocked me on my ass for 24 hours.
