Looks like there is an escape variant discovered in South Africa that may decrease the efficacy of the Covid vaccine. Still under investigation...

(CNN)Scientists have identified an "escape mutant" that may decrease the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines.
The mutation -- called E484K -- has been found in a variant of the coronavirus first spotted in South Africa two months ago. That variant has now spread to 12 other countries.

"Adding to anxiety currently affecting the NBA amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, multiple players who previously tested positive for the coronavirus have recently tested positive a second time, sources told ESPN."

Is the process used to develop the current vaccine(s) something that can be replicated for other variations of covid, or is it largely starting from scratch? I guess that's a vagus question. But similar to how they redo the flu vaccine each year, I would think that a tweak wouldn't require full scale validation or field trials before being released, right?

I believe with this mRNA process you just insert the latest version of Covid and it would cover new strains?! Further, a company called Inovio is developing a vaccine that is more akin to the process used for flu shots. So that's a potential option for the future.

Wife's old boss. He got the Vac because high-risk.....he's a dentist.
4 days later from getting the Vac he's in ICU on a vent. As of last night it was not looking good for him.

New guideline from CDC requires negative test to fly into the US. I wonder how common it will be to require tests for travel?

Would any of you all be surprised if we are still "masking up" 5 years from now? There is Hope with the vaccination, but it seems daily there are set backs. This is depressing.
