Praises to AAA - Augie91 - 06-11-2022 Car broke down almost 200 miles from home. AAA finally had an opportunity to help me out! If you got older paid for cars that are prone to occasional problems, AAA is a solid investment. RE: Praises to AAA - Mexas Joe - 06-11-2022 Details? RE: Praises to AAA - Augie91 - 06-11-2022 Last Wednesday we drove oldest daughter up to Ames for freshman orientation. Stayed at a posh B&B on campus whilst daughter toured dorms and met other incoming freshman. Breakfasts were killer. Meanwhile overnight, we subsequently discovered, a squirrel or groundhog decided to devour the wiring harness of our Odyssey. Check engine light and traction control light go on. D light starts blinking. Car starts to sputter in the mornings (Thurs/Fri) when we start it. It drives just fine though and there's no issues. I assume it is an electrical issue that can be addressed when we get home because I've had cylinder fail issues in the past. 10 miles outside of Ames, on friday, I notice temp gauge is buried on HOT. I call our mechanic and he advised us to pull over for fear that we will burn up engine. We tow car back to Ames , rent a car and drive home to Davenport . Tow truck driver advises me to upgrade my AAA coverage from Basic to Premium so I can get a 200 mile tow. I upgrade my AAA coverage. Have to wait 72 hours for new coverage to kick in. We fly to Vegas on Sunday and I coordinate the tow on Tues while we are in Vegas. Our mechanic tells us engine is fine, rodent caused false warning lights, however; we need to contact our insurance company because it's gonna cost more than our $1000 deductible to fix. I'm glad engine is ok. Fecking ground squirrels/ground hogs!! If I did not upgrade my AAA to premium I would have to go back to Ames and rent a U-Haul for $450 to town back our van or pay towing company more to get it back. AAA was great to work with. I've had basic coverage for 9 years and never used it. We are sending some money and a thank you note to the tow truck driver that recommended we upgrade our AAA coverage and sending a thank you and some cash to some friends that helped us get to car rental agency. RE: Praises to AAA - garyNconcord - 06-11-2022 When the kids were driving to college, AAA premium saved my ass a couple of times. Both son and daughter were able to get towed back home/to shop to fix issues that saved Gary from getting up and driving to damn all to get them. RE: Praises to AAA - Augie91 - 06-11-2022 I need to explore the other Premium benefits. There's also a rental car benefit. What we saved in the one tow makes the membership worth it. We drive back and forth to Iowa City a lot too, so the 100 mile tows could come into play there. RE: Praises to AAA - Buzzie mcnugget - 06-11-2022 USAA covers all this for us. RE: Praises to AAA - dj in kc - 06-11-2022 I pay about $6/yr with Geico for emergency road service/two cars. We did a tow within the last year. Fast and no extra charges. We had AAA for years when the three kids had cars we covered. I wish I had tied it to insurance back then. RE: Praises to AAA - Augie91 - 06-12-2022 We pay for tow coverage thru state farm. I called them and they were confused about what to do since we were almost 200 miles from home. Praises to AAA - Augie91 - 07-08-2022 So this past weekend we hit Home Depot and our other Odyssey decided to not start and got towed. Starter just quit. Getting our money's worth with AAA. We were down to one car for a few days because we are still waiting on that wiring harness. ![]() Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk RE: Praises to AAA - TxBrewer - 07-14-2022 (06-11-2022, 02:07 PM)Augie91 Wrote: I need to explore the other Premium benefits. How much extra is the premium AAA? Daughter will go to grad school 5+ hours away if accepted. May be a wise investment basic is on our insurance |
