Vacation question - TxBrewer - 07-14-2022

Curious about folks thoughts on something.  Say you planned to go on vacation with friends and split a rental house.   Two questions :

When do you pay your half?  When the property rental is due six weeks before or when you get down there?

If you couldn't go at the very last minute would you still pay your part if you canceled the day of the trip?

I pay asap and never wait on bills.

Said you are going and people planned on you? Pay your way even if you don't go. You gave your word.

I'd discuss payment upfront and what happens if someone has to back out. Do we bail on the whole thing or does one party eat the whole cost? Or do both parties still pay.

But if we relied on trust and a day before (with no monies paid) party 2 backed out, i'd probably cancel the trip and ask them to pay half the fee. Then i'd spend the time drunk and naked half submerged in a backyard kiddie pool.

I'd pay the six weeks out. If somebody cancels, regardless of reason, they should eat the cost. If it did not work out that way I would not travel with those folks going forward. Now I understand that things happen, but everybody needs to have their big boy pants on when people's wallets are open. Disagreements about money can lead to major fractions in relationships.

The people who we vacation with canceled the day they were supposed to come down and keep saying they will make it right but as of today, last full day of vacation haven't.

Damn. That sucks. Yeah they screwed ya'll. You don't do that to friends.

We had a couple back out of a sailing trip but they still paid for their empty cabin because we could not fill another couple last minute.

The funny thing is I sent the identical text to them, friends don't do that to each other.    Two days after I got really pissed a d made a fb post where I said getting screwed by friends sucks without naming them and they got pissed.

I was planning on using the funds they repaid to pay for a fishing guide, rather than digging deeper we chose not to so it screwed me two ways.

Live and learn.  Feckers.  Why did they back out?  Partying with y'all is a once in a lifetime opportunity!    It is their loss, but I'm sorry they backed out on you.  It ain't right to not pay up and leave friends hanging.
