After 5 years, I'm ready to cut my losses on this Samsung. It gets ice build-up to the point that the noise from the internal fan gets unbearable until it's completely thawed out. The ice maker has always been slow and does a shit job of dispensing, and now it's actually frozen up completely. I just spent a half an hour with a spray bottle of hot water trying to unjam an ice pack that had formed between it and the wall of the fridge. I'm done. An overpriced piece of garbage - would have been better off with a Frigidaire.
Anyhoo, assuming I don't want any froo-froo designer type stuff (I'm not spending $5K on a refrigerator unless it can also vacuum and give massages), what's a good large-capacity kitchen fridge? I really like the bottom-mount freezer design, and the one thing that's been nice with this Samsung is the dual doors and a deli drawer, but I'd give those up for something that was going to be completely trouble free, I think.

I want to hate samsung after the fan in my first one died (twice). I gave it to glacies, who fixed the problem and has had a really nice beer fridge ever since. Discovered that LG is weirder than Samsung and, on my knees with lashings laddered up my back, I bought another Samsung. Just a side by side, but haven't had any issues for 2 years. Bestbuy did an amazing job delivering and installing.
Kenmore used to be a great brand, dunno what they're up to now. My dad got a frigidaire from lows. Basically a box with an ice maker - side by side for about 1200. Ice drops, food cold. I figure the less you spend, the more you win.
Less electronics and more buttons is more.
Hate the french doors with freezer in bottom.
Hate the concept of seeing my food without opening the fridge.
Hate smart fridges.
Hate smart people.
Man, you got me smokin! Now i want to go beat up my neighbors and toss their fridge out on the street! RAARRR!!

We to a fridgedaire. I had ice buildup on the fan behind the ice maker as well. The appliance repair man found a slow drip in the water line that feeds it. SO if you have the patience it might be worth having it looked at?! Our frigidaire works fine now.

After hearing all the complaints on the blue board about various high-end/fancy washers/dryers/fridges/dishwashers not working after a year I needed a new clothes dryer.... researched the oldest and most basic design and got a cheapie at Home Depot. No motherboard, all mechanical buttons and dials....still working great after a few years.

If I eat too much I can dial in a 36 waist on my 34 pants.
I don't have to loosen my belt anymore ( unless I'm delivering spankings)

Interesting... my Samsung just started having this problem about 3-6 months ago. I have to scrape the bottom of the ice maker (removing the ice cube tray) and the side wall of the ice maker due to build up. Dispensing has been very slow and cubes often come out crushed. I don't think warm water is sufficient. I just took a good strong SS knife and stab/scrape for a minute to dislodge the build up.

That's exactly the issue I had today. Underside, and the gap between the ice maker and the interior fridge wall were completely packed. And probably four times I've needed to remove the back panel inside to deal with ice pack around the fan that pulls air past the main evap.
"Whole" ice has always come out cracked into pieces, and "crushed" takes like 20 minutes to fill a glass. Horrible design.
