That's crazy, he's lucky he didn't get killed.
My first Polish Tokarev blew up in my face the only time I'd ever run modern commercial ammo through it ( Sellier & Bellot) but fortunately I just got a bunch of small facial cuts from the brass.. It was scary though, crazier than the time one of my Yugo Toks went full auto.

He's damned lucky to be alive. If he hadn't been quick thinking and jammed his thumb in his neck wound, he'd be a dead man. I watch his YouTube channel all the time. He's the current world record holder for emptying a .50 S&W revolver on target. 5 shots, at 21 feet in 1.09 seconds.
