I just bought 6 bags of salt.
Bromine for the hot tub has been expensive enough.

Fucking chipmunks chewed up the wiring endlessly and where we moved wasn't as convenient to get in. I'm thinking diy salt shouldn't be too tough. Do you really go through that much salt? Do you use stabilizer? (03-23-2022, 11:20 PM)bdutton Wrote:(03-23-2022, 08:31 PM)dj in kc Wrote: What are you doing for chlorine this year? Yasssss. Like brother Lou I'm a salt guy. My last pool builder talked me away from salt although that's what I had before. Needless to say after a couple season of 3-5 hundo on chemicals I converted to salt.
I priced salt last week at $10 per 40# bag and acid at about $5 per handle. A $60 box of shock from Sams lasts all season. Hot tub is now bromine but it only runs 5 months per year. Pools store has bunches of Chroline Tabs 2 weeks ago but it's pre-season and they now limit so expect shortages.

I don't use stabilizer. After my initial opening, I use maybe 3 bags through the season. So $24 versus whatever one might spend on chlorine. Biggest expense was all the stainless fasteners I used everywhere within 20 feet of the salt water.

I had issues with my Polaris cleaner tail whipping out of the water and spraying the salt water over errything and rusting metal chairs. Adjusted the tail and now it's all good.
It's important to keep an eye on the pool tail.

I didn't think the salinity was high enough to corrode stuff though.
