Supplementation works to correct deficiencies. Thus, if your diet lacks diversity and balance and you're seeing problems with recovery, sleep, illness, then a multi-vitamin may fill in those holes.
What supplementation cannot do is surpass your existing level of performance. You will not magically become superman, or boast a powerful immune response if you were not already capable of doing so. Excess vitamins and minerals get excreted (or they accumulate to the point of toxicity in certain tissues).
If you drink, B vitamins could definitely use some topping off.
