Kids and Phones Questions
#1
Should kids (under 16) be allowed to have their cell phones at night time & should kids living in your home give you their phones if you ask them to?!

Our 3 that have phones are 16,15,14.  The 16 year old is very responsible and gets off her phone so she is allowed to keep hers.  She would give us hers anytime we ask.  Our 15 year old gets his taken away cause he will stay awake all night.  He gives it up when we ask for it.  Our 14 year old has refused to give hers to us at all.  Recently, when she left it alone, we took it back.  We've told her she had to give it up when we ask for it, otherwise; she's not getting it back.

Check with your provider to see if there are parental control options available.

None of ours have phones, but the oldest hasn't even turned twelve yet. They do have ipads, and we have typical parental filters set up.

We got Eero app on wifi, so we regularly block youngest daughters wifi access, and she does not have a data card in her phone yet. Thank the Lord for that!!! She won't get one either if she does not comply going forward. She's a solid couple years away from that if she does not get in line. Further, I recently discovered that Netflix, the app my youngest daughter watches the most can be blocked/restricted.

I don't take kindly to teenagers telling me what the rules/limits are.

Hold off as long as you can.  Our 16 yr old did not get a phone till she was a sophomore.  Our 15 year old got one when he was a freshman.  Our 14 year old got hers (no data) when she went into 8th grade.  Each progressively pushed us to move up the timeframe.

Each, however; was the last kid in their grade to get phones, so we are "freaks" when it comes to parenting in that regard Smile

My kids have tablets. The two year old managed to scalp the password off the wife, shared it with the others. They all use the tablets like phones now.

My two girls use their tablets regularly to video chat with grandparents. The oldest is still trying to learn that it's not something you spread butter on. He seemed to have so much potential when he was younger.
