It varies based on location. In our area the premium, at $140 yr, is about double the basic membership. If you have a membership you can add on family members for cheaper. Since we have older vehicles, that required 2 tows this year, it has been worth it this year to upgrade. AAA also will pay for a one day car rental to get you where you need to go whilst your vehicle is towed. For 9 years we had basic and it worked fine. We used it mainly for discounts on hotel rooms and free maps/travel guides. It's good for peace of mind for us! We had insurance towing and we found out it did not cover much.
